  • Samsung Galaxy On7 Pro Cons-Reasons not to Buy

Samsung Galaxy On7 Pro is a budget Android dual sim Smartphone priced at Rs.11,190. It is a revised variant of last years Galaxy On 7. The improvement over its predecessor are 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Considering the price, other available devices are Le 2, Lenovo Vibe K5 Note, Redmi Note 3 and Redmi 3s Prime. Comparing with these devices, here are the Samsung Galaxy On7 Pro Cons or disadvantages.

    Samsung Galaxy On7 Pro Cons

Samsung Galaxy On7 Pro Cons-Reasons not to Buy

    Lack of basic sensors

Nowadays we do get smartphones with fingerprint scanner in this price segment. However, we can give excuse for Fingerprint scanner. But lack of basic sensors like Ambient light sensor, Magnetic/Compass Sensor is not acceptable considering the price.  Also it impacts on the smartphone experience.

Slightly outdated SoC for the price

Samsung Galaxy On 7 Pro comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 clocked at 1.2GHz coupled with a Adreno 302 GPU, 2GB of RAM. This SoC is used in its predecessor as well. Only the RAM size is increased from 1.5GB to 2GB and internal storage is now 16GB instead of 8GB. We are not saying performance is bad on this device, but we expected better SoC considering the price.

    No sAMOLED display screen

5.5 inch screen with 720p resolution is big let down if you are a media consumer.  We are seeing most of the smartphones in this price segment features full HD display panels. Galaxy J series comes with sAMOLED screen which improves the viewing experience. But this device comes with IPS display panel and not the sAMOLED display screen.  In 2016, a smartphone which is priced above 10k with 720p resolution for 5.5 inch display is not acceptable.

No LED Notification Light and secondary Noise cancellation mic

LED notification helps the users to know about notifications without touching the device. It is a very useful function. The secondary noise cancellation mic does improve call quality by lowering the background noise. However, Galaxy On 7 Pro does not features both of them.

    Same old boring design

Samsung Galaxy On 7 Pro comes with plastic build which we have seen in the previous models. The quality of removable back cover is also poor. At present, Samsung has 8 devices in the price range of 8-12k. The design and build quality of all of them are very much similar except minor differences.

This is not a Samsung Galaxy On 7 Pro review. In this post, we have listed only the cons which we felt on the device. It has many advantages as well. Such as dedicated microSD card slot, S Bike mode, timely security patch updates, decent battery life etc. Knowing Samsung Galaxy On 7 Pro demerits/disadvantages will help you to set your expectation from the device.

    Samsung Galaxy J5 2016

Samsung Galaxy J5 2016 is made up of plastic. However, it has matte metal strip covering in the sides. With the dimensions  of  72.3×145.8×8.1 mm and weighs 158 grams, overall it feels good for a single handed usage.

Galaxy J5 2016 is powered by 1.2GHz Quad core Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 chipset with 2GB of RAM and Adreno 305 GPU. The day to day performance, I have not faced any lag. Games like Asphalt 8 can playable but in medium settings. In high settings, there is a minor frame drops. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with custom UI on top of it. The device is getting regular security updates which is welcome move from Samsung.  It has 16GB of internal storage in which around 10.8Gb of storage available for the users. It also supports microSD card.

Samsung Galaxy J5(6) sports 5.2 inch super AMOLED display screen with 720p resolution. Though there are many devices available in this price segment which has 1080p resolution, display on this device is surprisingly decent.

Galaxy J5(6) houses 13MP CMOS sensor with wide f/1.9 aperture and a single LED flash. The front camera is a 5MP unit with f/1.9 aperture and a dedicated LED flash. In well lit conditions, camera performance is good. Though colours look little over saturated, images taken are sharp and contains decent details. In low light, the Galaxy J5 6 camera struggles a bit.

Samsung Galaxy J5 2016 houses Li-ion 3100 mAh battery which in our test lasted for more than a day. The connectivity features of the device includes 4G, 3G, 2G, WiFi, Bluetooth, WiFi hotspot, USB tethering and microUSB.

Samsung Galaxy J5 2016 review summary: In the below 15k price segment, there are many smartphones with much better specification  than this are available such as LeEco Le 2, Redmi Note 3, Lenovo Vibe k5 Note etc. What sets apart Galaxy J5 2016 from the rest is availability of proper dual sim card slots with dedicated microSD card support, removable battery and most importantly timely availability of security patch updates.

What are the demerits? Let us have quick look into Samsung Galaxy J2 2016 Cons.

    Samsung Galaxy J2 2016 Cons
    Samsung Galaxy J2 2016

At a time when market is flooded with great value for money smartphones such as LeEco Le 2, Honor 5C, Redmi Note 3 etc, there is a great expectation from new Galaxy J series smartphone.  But unfortunately Samsung disappointed with this smartphone. Here are the some of the basic Samsung Galaxy J2 2016 Cons according to us.

Samsung Galaxy J2 2016 Cons-Reasons not to buy

    Lack of basic sensors

Samsung continued to omit the basic sensors like Compass, Ambient light sensor on this smartphone as well. Now a days, most of the users use smartphones for navigation purpose. Lack of compass sensor/Magnetic Sensor, makes the device not a good device for navigation.

    Low powered SoC

Galaxy J2 2016 is powered by 32bit quad core 1.5Ghz Spreadtrum SC8830 SoC which is based on Cortex A7 . It comes with 1.5GB of RAM and Mali 400MP2 GPU. It also has the new technology called Turbo Speed technology which is suppose to improve the performance. However, comparing this with the likes of new 64 bit mid-range snapdragon SoC powered smartphones in this price segment, performance is below average. With the first usage you will feel the lag in the UI. By no means it is a good smartphone for gaming.

    Low internal storage

Galaxy J2 2016 has 8GB of internal storage and support for microSD card. The available user storage is around 3GB out of the box. Though it supports microSD card, all apps cannot be transferred to microSD card. The Android Marshmallow feature of using microSD card as internal storage is not available.

    Average Build Quality

As we have seen in the Galaxy smartphones from 2013,2014, Galaxy J2 2016 also has plastic build. It is sad to see, Samsung continued to use same last years design and plastic build.

    Over Priced

Looking at the options available at the price range of 10k, Galaxy J2 2016 looks overpriced.

Summary: These are the some of the  Samsung Galaxy J2 2016 Cons according to us. Having said that, it has few advantages as well. They are decent battery life, AMOLED display screen, VoLTE support, dedicated microSD card support and vast Samsung service centers.
